Hot Crack Filling
Crack filling is one of, if not, the most important step to protecting your driveway/parking lot. Proper attention to cracks will prevent problems from spreading and double the life of the pavement. Pavement repair in the early stages of deterioration will pay big dividends later by delaying costly resurfacing.
Effective crack sealing keeps water from entering and weakening the base or sub-base. It helps preserve the pavement, prevents sand, stone, and dirt from making its way into open cracks causing compressive stresses and extends pavement life by minimizing crack growth.
Heat Lance the cracks with a Crack Jet
First we clean out the cracks with hot air lance. This not only cleans the dirt out but burns out weeds and vegetation, while drying moisture.
Hot Melted Rubber is applied
Second we apply a DOT approved type of rubber, melted at 350º, which runs along and down into the crack, forming a band over the top.
Black Beauty Sand is applied
Third after the rubber has cooled, we then apply a Detack Agent, either liquid spray or Black Beauty Sand, depending on variables. Both of these methods will help to keep the sealant from sticking to shoes, tires, etc.
Every step of this procedure is imperative to insure that you get the best performance and longest life out of the crack sealant. Keep in mind; crack sealing is a temporary fix. Once a crack has formed it will continue to expand and will need to be re-sealed eventually.
